It was about 18 years ago when I was last in Hoi An. From only a handful of accommodation to choose from, today there are now hundreds to choose from.

I remember visiting the Victoria Hoi An when it was still under construction. It was one of the first international hotels due to open in Hoi An. And while it was a project by a foreign company, the design of the Victoria Resort in Hoi An very much reflected a sense of place.

The resort’s design draws inspiration from the history and culture of Hoi An, which pays tribute to the Japanese, French, and Vietnamese influence seen in Hoi An. The resort exudes the old-world charm of Hoi An and has so much character throughout the resort and is far from being a commercial resort.

And so even after all these years and all the choices available, the Victoria Hoi An Resort remains the pick of the bunch. It’s a lovely luxury boutique resorts located at Cua Dai Beach, which is just a short 10-15 minutes’ drive away from the old quarter of Hoi An.

The Experience at the Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort

It was a Father-Daughter trip that brought up back to central Vietnam. We had spent a few days exploring Da Nang, including savoring delicious food such as Nen Restaurant. It was then we made our way to Hoi An.

Hoi An is extremely easy access from Da Nang, being only a 20-30 minutes’ drive. Our first stop upon reaching Hoi An was the Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort so that we could check in and drop our bags to the room, before spending the day exploring the old quarters of Hoi An.

As our car pulled up to the entrance, my first feeling about the resort was a place full of charm. A large archway welcomes you at the entrance, with a friendly team eager to help take your bags.

It was such a pleasant experience already, and we had only just arrived.

Staying at the Victoria Resort in Hoi An

The Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort is perfectly located just 10-15 minutes’ drive from Hoi An’s old quarter. With gorgeous ocean views, the Victoria Resort in Hoi An offers a lovely sanctuary from the busy tourist center of Hoi An.

I usually do like to try and stay ‘city-centre’ where possible, so that it’s easy to walk around. However I am so glad we opted to stay at the Victoria. After a day exploring Hoi An, and meandering through the crowds of tourists, it was a pleasant experience being welcomed back to the Victoria Resort. It really was a sanctuary.

And fret not young grasshopper – the resort offers a regular shuttle service to and from the old quarter of Hoi An, so you won’t even need to dish out any extra money to take a taxi into town.

Deluxe Ocean View Room

I called the Deluxe Ocean View Room home for a few nights, and it was a lovely getaway. The room was spacious, with a king-sized bed front and centre. The room is airy, with high ceilings and lovely views overlooking the ocean.

The bathroom is spacious, with a rain shower AND an outdoor shower in your own small garden. You get all the usual amenities expected in a luxury boutique resort, however the Victoria Resort in Hoi An has scrapped the use of plastic. All of their amenities are wrapped in biodegradable material, and the shampoo, conditioner and body soap come in environmentally friendly refillable pumps.

The Facilities

POOL & BEACH

The pool is the center piece at the Victoria Resort in Hoi An. It overlooks the ocean, with the UNESCO protected Cham Islands serving as the backdrop in the distance. Surrounded by palm trees, the pool is the perfect escape to lounge around after a day of touring.

And if you’re wanting a dip in the sea, you’re in luck. While all the beach was unfortunately eroded due to previous monsoon seasons, the resort has built a set of stairs which allows you to pop into the water for a swim – and it is lovely! And if you’re after white sandy beach, a short walk from the pool area is a private beach for guests of Victoria Hoi An.

EATING & DRINKING

Each morning, buffet breakfast is hosted at the L’Annam Restaurant, which is the main restaurant in the resort. The space is decorated with colorful floor tiles and antique décor, further tying in the Indochine influences reflected throughout the resort. The breakfast offers a great selection of local and western favorites. And the iced Vietnamese coffee is a total must-try!

L’Annam Restaurant also serves all-day dining, with lunch time serving a limited menu made up of sandwiches, salads, and pizzas. The dinner menu is more extensive and serves a delicious array of International dishes, with a number of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian highlights. I enjoyed a fish dish, which was baked with lemongrass and other herbs. It is enjoyed with fresh rice paper rolls, which you wrap yourself. Loved it!

The Faifo Bar acts as the pool bar, but also has direct views over the ocean. With chairs placed overlooking the ocean, I loved soaking in the lovely ocean breeze whilst enjoying a fresh coconut.

  1. We stayed at the Victorian Hoi An Beach Resort at the start of this year and spent New Years Eve there. We had such a ball! The NYE festivities including an outdoor show which appealed to both adults and kids and the dinner buffet was nothing short of spectacular. With a French GM and Head Chef, you can’t go wrong I guess. And we danced the night away!

  5. Wow, the resoet views are so gorgeous and soothing to the eyes. Love the perfect blend of French, Vietnamese and Japanese architecture, it looks so beautiful with the beach in background.
