Whether you are in Bali for a few days or weeks or even months, there is always something to do to keep you busy. And experiencing the sunrise and sunset in Bali is definitely something worthy to do… more than once.

The sunrise and sunset in Bali is some of the best I have seen, that I decided to link up with several travel bloggers to share some of the best sunrise and sunset experiences in Bali to help you decide.

So let’s get started!

1. Potato Head Beach Club for Sunset

Courtney from Jet Set Brunette picks Potato Head Beach Club for Sunset

The sunset at Potato Head Beach Club

Potato Head is very cool beach club in Seminyak, with an amazing infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Is it cheap? No, not by Bali standards. Is it worth going? Absolutely. Cocktails are about $12AUD, which is a bit pricey for Bali, but the cocktails are great, the service is good and the sunset is unreal!

If you want a day-bed, definitely go earlier in the day. If you just want to go for sunset cocktails, I’d still recommending going at least an hour before sunset or else you may struggle to get a seat. It’s a very popular place!

2. Single Fin Bali for Sunset

Lauren from The Traveller’s Guide by #ljojlo picks Single Fin Bali for Sunset

If you have ever been to Bali and travelled the south, you would understand it is lined with cliffs and surf. Due to these aspects, the south of Bali boasts a relaxed vibe and is host to some spectacular places to eat and watch the sunset.

Single Fin is no exception. Perched on top of these great cliffs, overlooking the Single Fin Beach and surf, this place is a must for your list. The food is spectacular, the music is chill, and the overall feel of the Single Fin makes you not want to leave, making it my favourite place to watch the sunset in Bali.

3. La Plancha for Sunset

We loved La Plancha! It’s located right on the beach in Seminyak and has an awesome ‘Sunday Sesh’ vibe. Super chilled music, comfy beanbag chairs, colourful decor, friendly staff, cheap cocktails.

What a perfect way to watch a classic sunset in Bali that’s right on the beach.

4. Sanur Beach for Sunrise

Melanie from The Good Life Travellers picks Sanur Beach for Sunrise

The sunrise at the beach in Sanur

Bali literally has something to offer for everyone – late nights, cool bars and sunsets a plenty over on the west coast of the island and then you have the beautiful sunrises and 9km beach walk over on the east.  We heard before we arrived that a Sanur Sunrise was not to be missed – and boy was this true!  Every day for a month I began my day with a jog along the boardwalk with all of the other early risers to take in the beauty of the sunrise over Mt Agung and looking over to Lembongan.

As a daily practice I have never been so happy – always a sunset lover, now a converted sunrise lover when the view looks like this…

5. Echo Beach for Sunset

Robert from Another Traveler picks Echo Beach for Sunset

A sunset hotspot is Echo Beach, which is located in Canggu, on the west side of the island. Probably the most famous beach in the area, you’ll find many locals and travelers hanging out enjoying the beach, waves and views.

You can either watch it from the many local beach huts while enjoying a Bintan or stick your feet in the sand and enjoy nature.

6. Tanah Lot for Sunset

Dora from GoWonder picks Tanah Lot for Sunset

Tanah Lot in the afternoon, another great spot for sunset

Tanah Lot is a temple located on a small island formation just off the main island of Bali. The Tanah Lot temple sits on a 3 acre sized rock formation.

It is easy to access Tanah Lot from the main island, about 45 minutes by car from the main tourist area of Kuta. Watching the sun set as the tide goes down is a truly magical experience. It is a great spot to watch the sunset in Bali – and is also a super instragammable place to grab those instal-worthy shots.

7. Rock Bar for Sunset

Yours Truly, Soraya picks Rock Bar for Sunset

The sunset at Rock Bar

Heading to Rock Bar for a drink is an experience enough… but visiting Rock Bar at sunset is a magical experience that is a must do while in Bali.

The Rock Bar is located at the Ayana Resort & Spa in Jimbaran and is built onto the cliffs 14 meters above the ocean overlooking Jimbaran Bay. To access the bar you need to ride on their inclinator, which takes you down to the bar.

Sunset is the busiest time for Rock Bar, so if you are not staying at the Ayana Resort, be sure to get there EARLY in order to secure your place. If you are staying at the resort, that’s an extra bonus because you get priority access to the bar. One of the best spots to watch the sunset in Bali.

8. Ubud for Sunrise

Yours Truly, Soraya picks Ubud for Sunrise

The sunrise in Ubud from our balcony

I love waking up early to watch the sunrise. It is a peaceful and serene time of the day, and such a beautiful way to start. I really enjoyed watching the sunrises in Ubud, to the point that I would wake up most mornings at sunrise just to watch it.

There are many spots around Ubud to watch. I was lucky that the sunrise from my hotel room balcony was perfect to enjoy the wonderful colours coming over the horizon.

But there are also a few tours worth doing to catch the sunrise including walking through the rice paddies such as the Campuhan Ridge Walk or trekking Mount Batur for an incredible sunrise from the peak.

Loved this post? Pin it… it’s more fun!

    • Definitely! There is so much to do in Bali that you’ll need a few more trips. Tanah Lot was lovely to visit and gorgeous at sunset.

  1. These are all fantastic ideas of where to catch the sunrise and sunset in Bali. I am heading there in 2017, so pretty stoked about it now after reading this post. I definitely want to catch the sunset at Rock Bar and the sunrise at Sanur Beach. Going to challenge myself to see how many sunrise photos I can capture including the famous one from climbing Mount Batur.

  2. I’m a big fun of the golden hour (either sunrise or sunset), so I did the same as you when I travelled to Bali last May… I visited the main spot for sunsets.
I feel so bad that I missed some of your advice, but I’ll do it next time!
    Thanks for all the tips!

  3. I wish I would have had this guide when I went to Bali! I wanted to have a romantic place to see the sunset and I really would like to go to La Plancha for the chill music and cheap cocktail vibe.
