Nestled along the hilltops of Kamala Bay is the 5-star hotel, Hyatt Regency Phuket. Comfortably placed at the beginning of Phuket’s Millionaire’s Mile which is home to some of Phuket’s luxury hotels and villas.

This 5-star resort is built along the hilltops, which means the higher up the hill you go, the better the view. So you can expect panoramic views over the Andaman Sea, while lush greenery surround the resort. It is far enough from the crowds of Patong Beach, while still offering accessibility to the many attractions around Phuket.

When planning where to stay in Phuket, there are plenty of options. But I have to say, the north west part of Phuket is definitely our pick of the bunch. The nature that surrounds is beautiful, and there is enough to do around the place yet offers a quiet sanctuary for that relaxing holiday.

Upon arriving, we were greeted by the lovely Ploy who graciously welcomed us to Phuket and the Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort. We were offered a welcome drink and sat down to check in. Check in was seamless and while we had arrived much earlier before check in, Ploy kindly advised that we could use the hotel facilities until our room was ready.

The open air style of the lobby gave the hotel such a warm and welcoming feeling – as soon as I arrived to the hotel, I felt instantly like I was on holiday.

The Ocean View Room

Having checked into an Ocean View Room, we found ourselves near the top of the hill. While the walk might be steep, fear not young grasshopper. There are hotel buggies always around to help take you up and down the hill.

Upon entering the room, you get a feeling of space and grandeur. To the left was a generous wardrobe area, with an area with a his and her sink, the mini bar and a spot to lay your suitcase. To the right is the bathtub, with a separated shower room and toilet.

And as you continue to walk straight into the room, you’re welcomed with a stunning view over the Andaman Sea…a view as far as the eye can see. No cluttered skyscraper views, but rather a view of lush greenery and blue ocean, while a calming ocean breeze makes this space oh-so-relaxing.

The bed was a giant king size that was just so comfortable – I wish I could have brought home those pillows and comforter. The room came with plenty of facilities to ensure absolute comfort during your stay. There is a coffee machine with a good selection of coffee and teas. A large 40-inch flat screen TV which a generous number of international and local channels, along with a Bose Bluetooth audio device.

Facilities

The Pool

The pool is huge. Having visited Phuket during the high season, I admit I was worried at first that the pool would be overly crowded…boy was I wrong. Because of the mere size of the pool, there was plenty of space for everyone. It was comfortable and still relaxing on a wonderfully sunny day.

Pool cabanas lay all along the side of the pool, and if they were all taken, there were plenty of pool deck chairs to choose from. The lifeguard even had floaties ready…now you know how much I love a good floatie.

And one of my favourites – enjoying a refreshing summer cocktail while sunbaking by the pool. Better yet, the Hyatt Phuket Resort offered a range of rum cocktails using my favourite Chalong Bay Rum. My pick of the bunch was their Dark & Spicy Rum cocktail which used Chalong Bay Rum muddled with pineapple and cinnamon – ohhhhh the perfect cocktail to have by the pool.

Did you know that Phuket has an amazing Rum distillery? It’s called Chalong Bay Rum and you can visit the distillery.

Restaurants

From the Pool House to the Sunset Grill to the Pool Bar, there is a good amount of choice in the resort itself.

For breakfast buffet, you’ll head to the Pool House. The buffet has an international spread, with a delicious selection of pastries. I have to admit I loved their French Toast and Croissants! The Pool House also offers all-day dining.

For something a bit fancier, head to the top of the hill to the Sunset Grill Restaurant. The mean offers a selection of bbq’d seafood, meats and vegetables…but the best part of the place is the view. It’s absolutely stunning and a beautiful spot to spend your sunset. Ohh and they offer a great happy hour – buy 1, free 1 on cocktails in the early evening.

Nahm Spa

As with most 5-star resorts, it’s a must to pay a visit to the spa. As expected, the service was extremely friendly with the facilities so clean and welcoming. The menu offered a wide selection of treatments, many of which used local ingredients such as papaya and coconut milk to further enhance the treatment.

For the massages, you can choose the type of oil to be used such as Energising which offers a scent of rosemary, or Balance which is a blend of lavender, black pepper or geranium. Depending on your treatment, the therapist will offer their advice on the best oil. I booked myself in for the back and shoulder treatment, which was just so relaxing. By the end of the treatment, I couldn’t believe how quickly an hour passed because it was heavenly – a perfect balance of strong pressure to release muscle tension, with relaxing techniques to help calm the nerves.

Location

The Hyatt Regency Phuket is perfectly located in Kamala Bach, which is on the western part of the island. It is about 40 minutes away from the airport and offers easy access to many of the sights and sounds of Phuket. The hotel offers a free shuttle service to the main parts of Kamala Beach, so you’re never isolated.

The Verdict

Hyatt Regency Phuket offered a wonderful sanctuary in Kamala, which is one of the best places to stay in Phuket. This 5 star resort in Phuket is an inviting experience, and the perfect way to experience the Thai hospitality. We found all the staff to be extremely friendly and attentive, which made our stay all the more enjoyable. Prices starts at around U$257 / A$328 per night for a standard room which includes a great international buffet breakfast…  plus or minus depending on the season you travel and availability of the room type.

We enjoyed our stay here at the Hyatt Regency Phuket and are looking forward to our next trip back.
