I love Wadi Rum in Jordan. I find its Martian landscape so unique and interesting. So when my Dad suggested to do a hot air balloon experience in Wadi Rum, of course I jumped at the chance.
We awoke early – it was still dark. The stars were shining bright, and everyone was still sound asleep. We were travelling from Tala Bay you see, and it was going to be about an hour drive.
We got to Wadi Rum at the crack of dawn and the team was busy setting up the balloon ready for take off.

It wasn’t my first time to hot air balloon, but it was my first time to hot air balloon in Wadi Rum and I couldn’t wait. To be able to see this incredible landscape high up, I knew it was going to be amazing.
Finally, as the sun was rising, we hoped on board and started making our way up.
Up, up and away we went, with the sun chasing us up and the rock formations becoming smaller and smaller every meter we rose.

The view was just magic.
The landscape red, as if you were on mars, but the sky blue – what a wonderful contrast. I felt like an Astronaut flying over mars. Being up there was just so peaceful – no one else but us. The only sound was from the burner to maintain altitude, but otherwise the ride was so calm.

It was a serene experience that I highly recommend. To see Wadi Rum from a hot air balloon is a whole other experience.

Looks like hot air ballooning on Mars.
What a great experience.
Looks amazing! I’m dying to go in hot air balloon!
I love hot air ballooning although I’ve only done it once – in South Africa. It’s such a magical experience. I’ve been to Petra in Jordan but I missed out on Wadi Rum. I think I should go hot-air ballooning there the next time I am in Jordan.
This looks like such a wonderful and amazing experience. I have not been to Jordan but would love to visit some day. I have been in a hot air balloon and would love to go again sometime. Will definitely pin this post!
Wow, that looks like an incredible experience! I took a hot air balloon flight over the valleys in Cappadocia, Turkey. The landscape there was also quite bizarre and martian-like too 🙂
So beautiful! I was just in Jordan in January and we skipped this and did a 4×4 tour instead. I’d love to go back and see the desert from above like this!
I’ve always wanted to hot air balloon and the scenery looks just like the movie, Martian! Can you give more information on how to book this incredible journey and the top tips we should know before doing it? Your experience looks incredible and I would love to know how!
Beautiful photos and post! I visited Jordan a few years ago too! (I’ve always wanted to ride in a hot air balloon)!
Hi Leen, thanks for stopping by! If you ever get a chance to, you should try it. It’s such a unique way to see a place.
