When it comes to Canggu restaurants, you are definitely spoiled for choices. Down almost every street, every corner of the boho capital of Bali, you’ll find Canggu restaurants and cafes to indulge in. But like with all places, there’s the amazing, and there’s the so-so. And when you’re on holiday, you ain’t got time for so-so.
Having traveled to Canggu more times than I can count, it’s been incredible to see how many new Canggu restaurants continue to open. Canggu has one of the best food scenes in such close proximity – with most cafes within a few hundred meters to 1-2 kms away from each other. Dare I say the health food capital of the world?
After a lot of trial and error, below are some of the best restaurants in Canggu that you have to try.
These are ones I would recommend to family and friends who are going to Canggu, because hey, why waste time eating bad food? And so this list will continue to be a work in progress, where I’ll aim to update it each time I go to Canggu.
Here’s Your Guide to the Best of Canggu Restaurants
Give Cafe
Type of Food: Indonesian, International, Vegan, Vegetarian
Operating Hours: Daily, 7am – 9pm
Location: Jl. Padang Linjong No.85, Canggu
This one does ‘good’ with every coffee or smashed avo that you buy.
The Give Cafe in Canggu is all about helping the community, and so it’s a not-for-profit spot that donates all its profits towards the charity of our choosing. Yup you heard me right, every purchase you’ll receive a wooden token which you can use to vote for which charity to support that quarter. Choose between community, animal, and planet.
Give is fully vegetarian with ample of food options. We love the vegan nasi campur selection offered during lunch and dinner.
Shady Shack
Type of Food: International, Vegan, Vegetarian
Operating Hours: Daily, 7am – 9pm
Location: Jl. Tanah Barak No.57
Shady Shack is a Canggu veteran and has stayed around for so long because well, it’s so damn delicious. We’ve been to Bali so many times in the last couple of years, and without fail we’ll be at Shady Shack at least 3-4 times in one visit.
This Canggu cafe serves up hearty healthy food that’s reasonably priced. It’s a vegetarian-friendly and vegan café in Canggu, with a few meat options available for a few of us carnivores. The atmosphere is lovely, with a relaxing Bali vibe and good service.
Billy Ho
Type of Food: Chinese, Southeast Asian, Best for Dinner
Operating Hours: Daily, 12pm – midnight
Location: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong
Having lived in Kuala Lumpur for a number of years, sometimes I just crave Chinese food. And Billy Ho has got you covered with this one. Serving up Asian fusion food that specializes mostly in Chinese cuisine, Billy Ho offers a great atmosphere and good service. The server will tell you that the gyoza is most popular (not my fav to be honest), but I’d pick the tuna tataki or the lamb bao.
And forget traditional Chinese music, the restaurant places a range of modern hits with a few R&B and Hip Hop numbers to have you staying for more and order that next cocktail.
Mason
Type of Food: International, Best for Dinner
Operating Hours: Daily, 12pm – midnight
Location: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong
When I think of Mason Canggu, I think of their lamb shoulder. It’s fall of the bone delicious and pairs beautifully with their tomato salad and the broccoli salad. The baked halloumi with honey is also a hit, that’ll have you wanting to order one just for yourself. We also liked the roasted cauliflower and the tuna ceviche which were perfect starters.
The service is great with the staff being extremely attentive. The atmosphere is great too and so it gets busy at night, so reservations are a must especially after sunset.
Cinta Cafe
Type of Food: International, Best for Breakfast & Brunch
Operating Hours: Daily, 8am – 10:30pm
Location: Jl. Pantai Berawa No.69, Berawa
If you are looking for a great breakfast in Canggu, nothing beats rice paddy views with a good coffee in hand and a delicious breakfast at the Cinta Café in Berawa. For just 70k, you can opt for their set breakfast menu which comes with your choice of coffee, your choice of juice, and a meal.
This is also another great spot to switch on your laptop and get to work. Cinta Cafe offers a good wifi connection making this a popular spot for digital nomads in Canggu.
Nude Cafe
Type of Food: International, Best for Breakfast & Brunch
Operating Hours: Daily, 7am – 10pm
Location: Jl. Pantai Berawa No.33, Berawa
‘Everything is better nude’ as they like to say.
Yet another instagrammable cafe in Canggu, nude cafe serves a range of healthy food options as well as some not-so-healthy but taste delicious options. There’s a great range of juices, smoothies and health tonics (jamu) if you’re after something on the healthier side.
The wifi here is quick, which makes this another great cafe for digital nomads in Canggu. So if you’re after a spot to work on your laptop, this is another great option. Best of all, they also have an indoor sitting area with air-conditioning if it gets too hot during the day.
Cafe Organic
Type of Food: International, Vegan, Best for Breakfast & Brunch
Operating Hours: Daily, 7am – 6pm
Location: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong
The food in Canggu is amazing, with so many great options also for vegans and vegetarians. If you are looking for a great plant-based café in Canggu, then Café Organic is just delicious. The smoothie bowls here are my favorite – they are all put into a coconut bowl and are topped with plenty of fruit. Café Organic is super cozy, but it does get busy most days especially around breakfast and brunch, so get here early to score a great seat.
Warung Bu Mi
Type of Food: Indonesian, Best for Lunch & Dinner
Operating Hours: Daily, 10am – 10pm
Location: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong
This is my go-to nasi campur place. Serving a range of Indonesian food in Canggu, Warung Bu Mi is delicious, with so much variety, and best of all it’s cheap.
Hubby and another good friend of ours absolutely loves the corn fritters here. I, on the other hand, love their sambal and their fried sweet tempeh. There’s plenty of vegetarian options including stir-fried greens, bean sprouts, eggplant with sambal, jackfruit curry… you name it.
Just pick what kind of rice you want – white, red or yellow (or you can mix it up too) and then you start picking what items you want on your plate. Usually, I’ll get a mix of yellow and red rice, a fried chicken, stir-fried greens, fried bean sprouts, eggplant, fried sweet tempeh, and sambal for around IDR45k.
Sprout
Type of Food: International, Best for Breakfast & Brunch
Operating Hours: Daily, 7am – 6pm
Location: Jl. Raya Semat No.18, Berawa
Sprout is a cute little café in Canggu located just a hop over the shortcut into Berawa. Brightly painted walls fill the cafe making this a great spot for those of us gramers, but in all seriousness a delicious cafe with so much goodness to eat.
An excellent spot for all-day dining – they have a good breakfast selection with a range of sweet and savory options. And don’t be fooled by the size of the bowls that come out – it might look small but it’s not. The portions are generous and good to really fill you up.
Another great cafe to work from with excellent wifi connection, nice atmosphere without being overly crowded, and good music.
Moana Fish Eatery
Type of Food: Polynesian, Best for Dinner
Operating Hours: Daily, 11am – 11pm
Location: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong
For the love of fish! This one has you covered if you’re looking for the freshest of fish cooked so beautifully. Moana Fish Eatery is a Polynesian restaurant offering specialties from the region including a fabulous poke bowl.
All the staff are dressed in fun Hawaiian shirts, and decor that you might think you’re in Hawaii. The grilled mahi-mahi with mango is just magic, as well as the seared tuna. You must make a reservation otherwise it can be difficult to get a table for dinner… especially after sunset.
Leroy’s Vietnamese
Type of Food: Vietnamese, Best for Lunch
Operating Hours: Daily, 11am – 11pm
Location: Jl. Tanah Barak No.43
Amongst all the brilliant health food that Canggu has on offer, Leroy’s mixes it up by offering Vietnamese food with plenty of healthy options in the menu. It’s a small quaint restaurant located just further up from the Shady Shack. Enjoy a nice bowl of vermicelli salad with lemongrass chicken or some fried pad Thai noodles.
Peloton Supershop
Type of Food: International, Vegan, Vegetarian
Operating Hours: Daily, 7:30am – 10pm
Location: Jl. Pantai Berawa No.46
Peloton Supershop has some of the most colorful dishes in Canggu, and I’m not just adding this one for the gram. Whilst all the dishes are beautifully presented making this one perfect for any flat lay, the food is equally great.
Peloton Supershop is vegan and they do it so well. The jackfruit tacos is just brilliant – it’ll have you forgetting that you’re eating a vegan meal. Or try the fricken burger – a vegan chicken patty in a charcoal bun. There are absolutely no animal by-products, everything is made using vegan products only.
Fishbone Local
Type of Food: International, Fish, Best for Dinner
Operating Hours: Daily, 12pm – midnight
Location: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong
Fishbone Local is another great spot if you are after a beautifully cooked grilled fish. The restaurant is a modern design yet still has Bali vibes about it. Great music, great service…no wonder this one gets super packed for dinner so a reservation is needed.
Grilled fish is most definitely the way to go – my pick is the black cod grilled over charcoal with sambal and kaffir lime leaves. Pair it with potatoes and some green – just perfect.
Cafe Vida
Type of Food: International, Indonesian, Healthy, Vegetarian-friendly
Operating Hours: Daily, 7am – 10:30pm
Location: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong
Ahhh Café Vida, another great place to eat in Canggu, especially for its healthy food… and drinks! The drinks menu is a few pages long and includes so many amazing tonics, health shots with the option to do a flight of 6 shot, juices, smoothies, coffees… you name it. I’ve never drunk so many healthy drinks – from healthy greens to boost iron supplement, to an immunity booster filled with citrus, to traditional jamu tonics that aid in digestive health. It’s all-natural and it’s delicious.
And the food can be just as healthy with plenty of vegan and gluten-free options to choose from. They offer gluten-free bread made using Made’s Banana Flour, as well as vegan cheese and ice-cream. Try the Vida Healthy Bowl for one of the heartiest and healthiest salad we’ve had in Canggu. Or for breakfast, give the Green Breakfast Bowl a try for a super healthy way to start the day.
